GRAVEL (AGGREGATE) ROADS

The Road Badger was specifically designed for rehabilitation and product conservation of aggregate based roads. The dual scarifying system penetrates and prepares the road while in the same single pass the dual offset disking system retrieves, re-sizes and re-mixes existing road surfacing materials to a uniform road material spec re-establishing aggregate to the traveling surface. Additionally, the Road Badger eliminates rather than covers over road defects such as pot-holes, rocks, ruts and washboard. This is all performed with the material in-situ, and at an average speed of 2 to 5 km/hr.

Current road maintenance practices consist of grading the road - distributing gravel from the high spots into the low. Only minimal depth (1") road defects are effectively removed. Larger defects are filled with loose material traveling along the blade. Since the defects are not actually removed, they re-occur shortly after re-grading. Conventional methods of rehabilitating the road, aside from complete re-graveling, could consist of scarifying the road and then windrowing existing material so it can be re-mixed with a grader blade. This method displaces the product and requires the road grade to be re-established. Dust abatement or road stabilization products may be introduced in this process, requiring additional time consuming passes with the grader for mixing. The above process usually causes traffic disruptions or detours, as traffic must manoeuvre the windrows and equipment.

Road Badger Advantages:

- Greatly reduces the frequency and associated costs to re-gravel.

- Eliminates road defects (up to 6") instead of filling them.

- Minimal traffic disruptions

- Does not alter or modify the existing road grade.

- In-Situ mixing, the product does not get moved along the road.

- Increases the life expectancy of the road .

- Low operating cost and high production rates minimize overall road maintenance costs.

As a testimonial to it's cost effectiveness in this application - Encana Pelican Lake rehabilitated 117km of aggregate surfaced road with the Road Badger, saved over 2 million dollars in product and associated costs over a five month period. Click here for further details.
